Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman

SOLD

This Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman is a rare piece of design history. Designed by Charles and Ray Eames and produced by Herman Miller this lounge chair was manufactured in 1956, the very first year of production. It has a beautiful rosewood frame and its original leather upholstery ? nearly 60 years old ? ha the patina and condition of a well-loved high quality chair.

Charles (1907-1978) & Ray Eames (1912-1988) were two stars of the post-war American design scene ? one of the most innovative design periods in history. The influential husband and wife team (Charles a trained architect and Ray a trained artist) contributed to all fields of design with pioneering pieces that sought to bring good design to the masses.

The Lounge Chair is the Eames? modern take on a nineteenth-century club chair. It combines the Eames? molded plywood technology with high quality leather for a modern chair that Charles envisaged would have ?the warm, receptive look of a well-used first baseman?s mitt.? Vampt stocks only original and genuine Eames Lounge Chairs and these early – and rare – productions with original leather upholstery are certainly befitting of Charles? vision.
