Architect

Mid Century Modern master

Mid-century architect Harry Seidler made his modernist mark in homes and office buildings across Sydney. In 1952 he designed ‘Waterman House,’ a small one-bedroom weekend getaway in Palm Beach.

As he had done in his radical-at-the-time Rose Seidler House (1948), he did away with the traditional standards of residential design and instead worked with large rectangular volumes, expansive windows, clean lines, and sharp angles.

Various owners have modified Waterman House over the years and it recently went up for auction. Vampt Vintage Design styled the home for the occasion, working with Seidler’s original drawings and specified floor plan. The result? A clean and modern mid-century aesthetic befitting the charm of a much-loved mid-century home.
