The beautiful gentle curves of this Brazilian Móveis Gerdau Sofa hark back to the Art Deco era.
Made from Brazilian bentwood, the sofa is not only elegant, but also light weight.
In 1908 Fábrica de Móveis Navegantes’, in Porto Alegre, was bought by German businessman Johannes Gerdau. Gerdau’s son, Walter managed the business and started the fabrication of bentwood furniture, in the Viennese style developed by the Austrian, Michel Thonet, in the second half of the 19th century.
Although the furniture of the Gerdau family can be found in many places in Brazil, the Gerdau designs have remained some what of an unknown legacy.
